Problem :

Skateboarding culture has historically been male-dominated, with limited visibility and representation of women. Existing designs and branding often overlook feminine expression or portray it in stereotypical ways, leaving female skaters underrepresented in both the community and visual culture.

Solution :

The project uses illustration as a tool to merge empowerment with skate culture. By incorporating bold floral motifs, energetic colors, and metaphorical imagery, the designs celebrate femininity while expressing strength, resilience, and inclusivity. Extending the visuals onto merchandise like hoodies, keychains, and stickers further reinforces a sense of belonging, allowing women to see themselves represented authentically in skate culture.

Challenge :

The challenges included ensuring the floral motifs symbolized empowerment rather than fragility, adapting the designs to fit the skateboard’s curved surface, maintaining authenticity within skateboarding culture, and keeping the visuals consistent across merchandise and accessories.

Summary :

This project reimagines skateboard design to empower women in skate culture through bold floral motifs, vibrant colors, and metaphorical visuals. It addresses the lack of female representation by merging femininity with strength, creating designs that flow naturally on skateboards and extend cohesively to merchandise. The work celebrates inclusivity, resilience, and self-expression while challenging stereotypes in a traditionally male-dominated space.
